Healthy Country Planning Short Course, Poatina Tasmania 2025

Registrations now open

Registrations are open for a Healthy Country Planning workshop focusing on the diverse Liffey Valley, adjacent to the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. The five-day, live-in course will be held at Poatina in the Tasmanian Midlands.

“Great course, great location. Well done to the organisers. Thank you.” 2024 Course participant.

Using a well-proven learning approach, this intensive course will give you a good understanding of the Healthy Country Planning framework and how it can be directly used in your own work.

When: Monday 20th of January to Friday 24th of January 2025

Where: Poatina, Tasmania

Who: This course is designed for anyone currently working, or aiming to work, in land and sea management (e.g. First Nations / Indigenous Land and Sea Ranger Programs, NRM / Landscape Board staff, Public and Private Protected Areas including Joint Management, University Students or Environmental Graduates).

“As a person who predominately works in policy and legislative reform, I was nervous that I would be out of place or that I wouldn't find the course directly relevant to my work. I was pleasantly surprised to see how widely applicable the framework is; how it touches on the various roles and responsibilities that it takes to build and implement a project. Very useful and I can see myself applying it to policy development (as I think anyone working in environmental policy should).” 2024 Course participant.

Course outcomes:

  • Gain foundational knowledge of the Healthy Country Planning / Conservation Standards planning framework.
  • Develop skills and understanding that can be applied to the planning of conservation projects and property management at all scales and governance structures including the development of participatory land and sea management plans.
  • Understand how to implement, analyse and adapt on-ground actions for effective outcomes.
  • Develop understanding of the cultural and governance considerations for developing land and sea management plans

  • Build professional and social networks with other practitioners working in the land and sea management space.
